Login & Your Account
Your MGH Books account is the front door to your whole business β one email and password that unlocks your invoices, parties, stock and reports. This guide takes you gently through creating it, getting in, and what to do when something doesn't go to plan. No jargon left unexplained.
Read this first β how your account works
If you've ever used WhatsApp or Gmail, this will feel familiar. A few plain truths that make everything else click:
- One account = your business. When you sign up, MGH Books creates a private workspace that holds all your data. You get back into it with your email and password.
- A one-time code (OTP) keeps it yours. At sign-up β and, if you switch it on, at login β a 6-digit code is emailed to prove the account is really you. It's a safety net against someone else getting in.
- It works offline after the first login. The very first time, you need internet so the server can recognise you. After that you can keep billing even with no signal; it syncs when you're back online.
- Your email is your lifeline. Both the sign-up code and any password reset go to your email β so use an address you can actually open.
- Email + password only. There's no "Sign in with Google" or social login, and no SMS OTP for login β codes come by email.
- First login needs internet. If you're offline the very first time, you'll see "Cannot reach server" β connect once, then offline works.
- 5 wrong passwords locks the account for a few minutes. This is deliberate protection, not a fault.
- We can't see your password. If you forget it, you reset it via an emailed code β nobody can read it back to you.
Before you start
- π§ A working email address you can open right now (for the code).
- π± Your business name and a mobile number (10+ digits).
- π A password of at least 8 characters β mix letters and numbers so it's hard to guess.
Step 1 β Open MGH Books
Open the app in your browser (or the installed app). You arrive at the Login screen. Notice the two tabs at the top: Login (for returning users) and Create Account (for first-timers).
help-shots/gs-01-login-screen.pngStep 2 β Create your account
Tap Create Account and fill the form. Here's every field, what to type, and the rules the app checks:
| Field | What to enter | Rule the app checks |
|---|---|---|
| Business Name | Your firm/shop name, e.g. Shree Enterprises | Required |
| Full Name | The owner's name, e.g. Ramesh Patel | Required |
| Email Address | An inbox you can open, e.g. ramesh@gmail.com | Must look like a real email |
| Mobile Number | Your phone, e.g. 98XXXXXX10 | At least 10 digits |
| Password | Something only you know | Minimum 8 characters |
| Confirm Password | The same password again | Must match exactly |
Tap Create Account. A 6-digit code is emailed to the address you entered.
help-shots/gs-02-register.pngStep 3 β Verify your email
Now check your inbox for a 6-digit OTP and type it in. A few things to know so the timer doesn't stress you:
- The code expires in 5 minutes β if it lapses, just request a new one.
- No email after a minute? Check Spam/Junk. Still nothing? Wait for the Resend OTP timer, then tap it.
- Enter the latest code if you requested more than one β older codes stop working.
Verify, and you're in β straight into Company Setup.
help-shots/gs-03-otp.pngStep 4 β Logging in (returning users)
Already have an account? On the Login tab, type your Email and Password and tap Login. If your account has two-step verification switched on, you'll get one more screen:
This appears only if two-step verification is enabled on your account. Enter the fresh 6-digit code from your email to finish logging in. It's an extra lock for peace of mind.
help-shots/gs-04-login.pngStep 5 β Forgot your password? (it's okay, it happens)
Tap "Forgot password? Reset via OTP"
It's right under the login fields.
Enter your registered email
The address you signed up with. A reset code is emailed to it.
Enter the code + a new password
Type the OTP, then a new password (min 8 characters) and confirm it.
Log in fresh
Use your new password on the Login tab. Done.
help-shots/gs-05-reset.pngReal situations (and exactly what to do)
π Priya signs up for the first time
Priya runs a boutique. She taps Create Account, enters her shop name, email and a password, and hits create. A code lands in her Gmail within a few seconds; she types it in and is taken to set up her business. Total time: under two minutes.
π Ramesh moves to a new phone
Ramesh got a new phone. He opens MGH Books, taps Login, enters the same email and password he always used β and everything is there, because his data lives in his account, not on the old phone. (The first login on the new phone needs internet.)
π Anjali can't remember her password
Anjali tries twice, then uses Forgot password? Reset via OTP, gets a code by email, sets a new password, and is back in β without contacting anyone.
Words you'll see, in plain language
| Term | What it means |
|---|---|
| OTP | One-Time Password β a short code (here, 6 digits) emailed to you to prove it's really you. It works once and expires. |
| Two-step verification | An optional extra lock: password and an emailed code at login. |
| Account lockout | A short cooling-off pause after 5 wrong passwords, to stop guessing. |
| Offline-first | The app stores data on your device and works without internet (after the first login), syncing later. |
| Sync | Quietly copying your data to/from the secure server so it's safe and available across devices. |
Troubleshooting β if something goes wrong
| What you see | Why it happens | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| No OTP email | It's in spam, or the email was mistyped, or a moment's delay | Check Spam/Junk; wait for the timer and tap Resend OTP; confirm the email is correct |
| "Invalid or expired OTP" | The code lapsed (5 min) or you used an old one | Request a fresh code and enter the newest one |
| "Account locked after 5 failed attempts" | Too many wrong passwords | Wait the shown minutes, or reset your password via OTP |
| "Account not found" | No account exists for that email (or a typo) | Check the email spelling, or tap Create Account first |
| "Cannot reach server" | You're offline on a first-time login | Connect to the internet once; afterwards offline works |
| "Passwords do not match" | Confirm field differs from password | Re-type both carefully; check for stray spaces/caps lock |
Stay safe β good habits
- Use a password you don't use elsewhere; mix letters and numbers.
- Keep access to your sign-up email β it's how you recover the account.
- On a shared computer, log out when you're done.
- If two-step verification is available and your data is sensitive, turn it on.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to pay to create an account?
No. Creating an account and the Shuruat plan are free, with no card. You can upgrade later β see Plans & Billing.
Can I use the same account on my phone and computer?
Yes β log in with the same email/password anywhere; your data syncs. How many devices/users are allowed depends on your plan.
I run two businesses β do I need two accounts?
Higher plans support multiple companies under one login (Unnati up to 3, Shakti up to 30). On the free plan you manage one company.
Will I lose my data if I clear my browser?
Your data also syncs to the secure server once you're online, so logging in again restores it. Keep a habit of staying connected periodically so sync runs.
Is my data safe?
Connections are encrypted and your password is never stored in a readable form. See the Backup & Data guidance for more, or ask us directly.
